CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER DIRECTOR
Position Overview:
The Child Development Center Director is responsible for the creation, development, planning and maintenance of excellent programs and services to YMCA early learning program participants and parents. The successful candidate must have an understanding of the role the YMCA early learning programs play in accomplishing the mission, goals and objectives of the YMCA.
Current association childcare programs include full- and part-time year-round classrooms for infants (from 6 weeks of age), toddlers, and preschoolers, as well as before- and after-school programming and summer camp programs for elementary children.
Position Qualifications:
- Must meet the requirements of Chapter 5101:2-12 of the Ohio Administrative Code;
- Bachelor’s degree or greater in education or related field preferred
- Minimum of three years’ experience in child care, preferably with a YMCA child care
- Experience in staff supervision preferred
- Proficient with computers, including computer applications such as spreadsheets, databases and word processing
- Requirements upon hire (or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire) include completion of CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications; Child Abuse Prevention and Management of Communicable Diseases training; and a state-specific Rules and Regulations Overview course, in addition to any YMCA program certifications deemed relevant and beneficial to the job by the CEO
- Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make oral presentations
- Must be a creative, motivated self-starter with the ability to multitask
- Display sound judgment, independent thinking, and be able to work both independently and with staff in a team-based environment
Physical Requirements: Successful candidate must be able to move freely and quickly throughout the YMCA facility; easily navigate a variety of indoor and outdoor surfaces; watch and listen to the activities of a group of children; communicate effectively with people; bend and lift; and lift up to 50 pounds.
Salary range: $37,000-$42,000 per year to start, commensurate with experience. Pay increases available with evaluation and successful increases in childcare enrollment.

LIFEGUARDS
We are looking for certified lifeguards to staff the pools at both Darke County YMCA locations.
Nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification required.*
Lifeguards are responsible for the supervision & safety of swimmers in the swimming pool.
Qualified candidates must be at least 15 years old and possess a nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification.

PERSONAL TRAINER
POSITION SUMMARY: The Personal Trainer follows the YMCA of the USA Health and Fitness guidelines and is responsible for planning and leading a range of individualized or group exercise/activity sessions for clients in a fitness specialty area. They perform a variety of fitness programs that are both educational and motivational and provide guidance on ways to support healthy lifestyles and healthy lifestyle changes. The Personal Trainer also provides customer service which promotes member wellness in accordance with the YMCA policies and procedures and creates a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment. This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop, implement, and instruct a variety of personal training and group training sessions for clients at an appropriate level and in the appropriate modality based on clients wants, needs, and ability. Provide encouragement and expertise for the client in support of their health and well-being goals.
- Administer, track, and evaluate health history questionnaires, fitness assessments, and other preparticipation documentation with regard to individual exercise programs.
- Adhere to all guidelines and expectations as outlined in the YMCA of Darke County Employee Handbook, which includes but is not limited to providing safe classes and sessions and responding to and reporting any accidents or incidents.
- Educates members in proper use of equipment.
- Provides a cohesive approach to customer service and training that directly impacts the participant’s commitment and personal growth.
- Maintains client list and records as required by the Program Director.
- Promote personal training programs and services.
- Maintain required CECs and national certifications.
- Follow Wellness Floor or Pool expectations when not scheduled for personal training, group training, or performing a consultation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Personal Trainer Certification through a nationally accredited organization including, but not limited to NETA, NASM, ACE, ACSM, AEA. Must hold an Aqua Specialty Certification if personal training is to be done in the pool.
- Formal training in the specialty class being taught and/or ability to demonstrate the movements and exercises.
- Demonstrates customer services skills and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates ability to lead an individual/group and motivate others to achieve their health and wellbeing goals.
- Demonstrates ability working with all age groups and ability levels.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- Degree in health and science or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1-year experience in the health and fitness field preferred.

GYMNASTICS INSTRUCTORS
Our instructors are responsible for providing class curriculum & instructing gymnastics to children ages 3 & up. Gymnastics instructors serve as the expert during classes and recreational activities and ensure a high-quality sports and recreational experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must demonstrate the ability to teach a safe and effective class
- Possess current CPR/First Aid/AED certifications
- Must be available to work through the school year
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Prior experience in gymnastics required; experience instructing intermediate levels preferred.
- USAG Safety Certification or YUSA Gymnastics Instruction certification a plus
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follows the YMCA of the USA teaching guidelines
- Work with children to teach the fundamentals of gymnastics while following all safety procedures and protocols
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons and communicate those objectives to participants
- Monitor participants’ performance to make suggestions for improvement and to ensure knowledge of course standards & objectives
- Set up/tear down equipment
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities
- Physical ability to respond quickly in emergency: regular kneeling, bending, or sitting.

- Must be able to handle multiple tasks.
- Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, members, and program participants.

SWIM LESSON INSTRUCTORS
The Darke County YMCA is looking for Swim Instructors to join our team. The Swim Instructor ensures safety in YMCA pools and aquatics areas for all members, guests, and program participants by leading swim lessons in a safe and effective manner. They enforce rules and guidelines in accordance with YMCA policies, respond to member and guest needs, provide customer service, and help maintain a safe aquatics environment.
Our programs are about more than the techniques, they are about nurturing swimming skills, developing self-esteem and creating positive experiences that will last a lifetime.
When it comes to swimming and water safety, no one is trusted more than the YMCA, America’s Swim Instructor. In fact, group swim instruction was developed by the YMCA in 1906.
Applicants should be comfortable working in the water and be able to lift a small child. The Y will provide training for swim lesson instruction.
